# Banaras Unscripted — The Living Crescent **Five days. One sacred river. A version of time you've never lived before.** Some cities are meant to be explored. Banaras is meant to be felt. Beyond the crowded temple corridors, bustling markets and familiar tourist trails lies another Banaras. One that wakes to the sound of morning ragas, lives through stories whispered in centuries-old lanes, and slows down as the evening lamps reflect upon the Ganga. **Banaras Unscripted** is a five-day cultural immersion designed for travellers who want to experience Kashi beyond the ordinary. Hosted by **Shivam Billore**, who spent two years living in the city, this journey invites you to discover Banaras through the people, traditions and everyday moments that give it its soul. Walk through winding galis where every doorway holds a story. Share conversations with local boatmen. Witness the Ganga Aarti from a hand-rowed wooden boat. Discover traditional Pink Meenakari craftsmanship, savour winter Malaiyyo and wake to the peaceful rhythm of Assi Ghat. There are no exhausting sightseeing checklists here. Each day unfolds around a few meaningful experiences — a sacred temple, a quiet boat ride, a local workshop or a shared meal. Everything in between leaves room for spontaneous discoveries, unexpected conversations and moments worth remembering. With a small circle of no more than ten travellers, the experience is as much about the people you meet as the places you explore. You won't simply visit Banaras. **You'll discover what it feels like to belong to its rhythm, even if only for five days.** *Because some journeys aren't about how far you travel. They're about how deeply you experience a place.*
Some places are meant to be visited. Others are meant to be lived. For Shivam Billore, Banaras became the latter. What began as a journey through the ancient lanes of Kashi gradually turned into a deeper connection with the city, its people, and its timeless way of life. Shivam first arrived in Banaras in 2021, spending his days working remotely, living in backpacker hostels, and wandering along the ghats. Drawn to the city's character, he enrolled at Banaras Hindu University in 2022 and spent two years experiencing Kashi beyond its familiar tourist landmarks. Along the way, he built connections with local boatmen, explored the winding galis, and discovered the stories, traditions, and everyday moments that make Banaras unlike anywhere else. Today, Shivam brings that personal understanding into the experiences he creates. His journeys aren't about racing between attractions or following rigid schedules. They're about slowing down, discovering hidden corners, sharing conversations with local people, and allowing the city to reveal itself naturally. From peaceful mornings beside the Ganga and centuries-old neighbourhoods to traditional crafts, local flavours, and evenings on the ghats, Shivam invites travellers to experience Banaras through a more personal lens. For Shivam, the most memorable journeys aren't measured by how many places you visit, but by how deeply you connect with them.
Arrive near Assi Ghat, meet your fellow travellers over ginger-lemon chai and settle into the rhythm of Kashi. Visit Kaal Bhairav Temple, where local tradition honours the deity as the guardian of the city. Walk through winding galis toward the river as evening lamps begin to glow.
Begin before sunrise with a visit to Kashi Vishwanath Dham. Follow the aromas of hing-kachori, jalebi and kulhad lassi through Thatheri Bazar. Explore historic shrines and family workshops preserving Pink Meenakari and woodcraft traditions. After an afternoon break, board a hand-rowed wooden boat to witness the Ganga Aarti from the river.
Wake to Subah-e-Banaras, where music welcomes the morning at Assi Ghat. Join a gentle yoga session before exploring Tulsi Ghat and crossing to Ramnagar Fort. Spend the afternoon among the tree-lined avenues of Banaras Hindu University, visiting the New Vishwanath Temple and Bharat Kala Bhavan. End with the peaceful courtyards of Sankat Mochan and Durga Mandir.
Cross the Ganga by wooden boat to experience the quiet eastern sandbars, subject to safe river and weather conditions. Later, explore Bengali Tola's bookshops and cafés before drifting into Godowlia and Dal Mandi, where perfumes, fabrics and local flavours fill the streets. Gather for a farewell dinner to share the stories that shaped your journey.

Joining the Friendship Peak Expedition was one of the best decisions I've made. The team was highly professional, the camps were comfortable, the food was surprisingly excellent, and every detail was well organized. Even when weather conditions became unsafe, Ricky prioritized our safety over the summit, which showed true leadership. I highly recommend this team to anyone looking for a safe, well-managed, and unforgettable Himalayan mountaineering experience.
The experiences felt genuine, the community was amazing, and I loved meeting people from different backgrounds. Nomadic Townies made travel feel much more meaningful.
It never felt like a commercial tour. It felt like exploring Ladakh alongside passionate people who truly loved the mountains and wanted us to experience them the right way.
An amazing Andaman experience! Everything was well organized, and our host, Iswar, made the journey smooth and memorable.
Nomadic Townies focuses on experiences instead of just destinations. The hosts made us feel welcome, and every day brought something meaningful beyond sightseeing.
What impressed me most was how authentic everything felt. From the local interactions to the itinerary, nothing felt commercial. Exactly the kind of travel I've always wanted.
